Women in Street Japan

The female perspective

During the pandemic peak in October 2020, Women in Street Japan was founded by Anne Murayama in coordination with the main sisterhood of Women in Street. At first, WISJP featured women street photographers with works produced work in Japan.

Afterward, WISJP became more community-driven with the help of co-curators Sakurako Nagaiwa and Michelle Inaner through carefully picked daily selections and monthly themes. In 2021, a WISJP limited edition photobook was published and included in the Tokyo Art Book Fair.

Today in 2023—after an inevitable hiatus and a slight rebrand—Women in Street Japan continues highlighting women street photographers and their thought-provoking work while consciously investigating the distinctive characteristics of the female perspective.
